I've been pining after a SP3 for some time (I like the i7 256GB) as a replacement for my aging desktop and for my tablet. I like the specs, and the power, and especially the fact that I can get an honest-to-goodness docking station to go with it. I'd mainly use it for web browsing, photo editing, and light gaming (I checked into this, it'll run most titles I own).
Anyone here have on that they can give some impressions on?

The only thing that I do not like about surface pro is it sucks when you're sitting on the couch.
I have found a full convertible laptop to be a bit more comfortable and usable in that situation.

That's really good to know, because I use my current tablet A LOT when I'm on the couch. I feel like that kickstand would help a good bit though.

The company I work for has a bunch of Surface Pro 2s for our salespeople and management.
I personally have a Lenovo tablet (honestly forget which one) that isn't too bad when sitting on my lap, but that keyboard is just a little chunkier than the Surface keyboard cover. I don't have a whole lot of tactile knowledge of the Surface keyboard covers, but it just seems to me that the sexy, thin cover just wouldn't be pleasant to type on while sitting on my lap. The experience would probably be totally different with a lap desk or at a table.
Most of my experience with them has been through remote assistance, and from that standpoint it's no different than any Windows 8.1 Machine.

The kickstand is thin and I don't like the way it feels on my legs, if you want to use the keyboard it doesn't really work unless its on a hard flat surface. I don't own one currently, but I was given one of the first surface pros to test for a week when I worked retail.
Also the low wattage is I7 is hardly a gaming chip. I would recommend something like this with a dedicated graphics card if you want to do some gaming and have convertable 2-1 tablet/laptop

My current awakened level had me read Wankel Wednesday as Wank It Wednesday.
Time to fire up the Kiurig machine. Or however that that is spelt.

There's a THINKPAD yoga? Wow. I might need to look into that. My old work got everyone T420 Thinkpads and I LOVED them.

To make up for my misreading of Wankel Wednesday, have this: an onboard lap of Le Mans in the Banshee known as the 787b:

The keyboard/trackpad cover is fucking flimsy and feels like shit. And overpriced. Otherwise a fine machine, but the i7 isn't worth the money.

We have some at my work. I enjoy carrying it around for meetings and using it at a desk or table. I agreed it's not well suited for lap use but when I'm at home I like doodling with it on the couch, but I don't use the kickstand when I use it that way.
For the money you can buy lots of other hardware, but if you want a Windows tablet the new Surface is as good as it gets.

My wife has a surface 1. I think its ok, I have never been super impressed with any tablet. My wife uses it for work, and I just use to play around on the interwebs. I have heard from folks on boards complain about the keyboard being an issue. My wife types about 80 word/min, and she loves it. She says she feels like she can type quicker on it. I might have something to do with button rebound. Its all a matter of opinion I guess. Best thing to do is find an MS store near you and try it out. Also if you not familiar with the tile layout it can be a change.

I'm not really sold on the cover myself. I wouldn't buy one till I needed it since I'd mostly keep it docked and then take it as a tablet whenever I went mobile.

My next cube neighbor has one and I'm infinitely jealous. It is every bit as awesome as it seems.

I used the Surface Pro 3 fairly intensively this summer. It's not a powerhouse, but for a tablet it is exceptionally capable. I think it's light enough to hold and use as a tablet, but after a while it will start wearing on you. For the purposes you listed though, I think it would be exceptionally capable. It felt very well built, and I'd definitely give it my recommendation.
For what it's worth, my boss replaced his computer with one and used it on a docking station with two huge 1080p monitors at his desk. Ran pretty smoothly.

Yeah, I'd use it with one big monitor as a desktop replacement when I needed to or when I wanted to game a little. A guy in my office has one with two 1080p monitors and really likes it.

I'd say go for it. I really wanted to keep one of the ones we had at work.
